Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 4 large eggs, separated
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 100g white chocolate for the heart shape
  • Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×5 inch loaf pan.
  2. Prepare the white chocolate heart shapes by melting white chocolate and pouring it into a heart-shaped mold. Chill until set.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  4. In another bowl, beat egg yolks with sugar until thick and pale. Add melted butter and vanilla extract; mix well.
  5. Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture alternating with milk, mixing until smooth.
  6. In a separate bowl, beat egg whites until stiff peaks form. Gently fold into the chocolate batter.
  7. Pour half of the chocolate batter into the loaf pan. Arrange the chilled white chocolate hearts in a line down the center.
  8. Carefully spoon the remaining batter over and around the hearts to cover them completely.
  9. Bake for 45-50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the edges comes out clean.
  10. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 15 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  11. Dust with powdered sugar before serving if desired.

Notes

For an extra decadent touch, serve slices with a dollop of whipped cream or a drizzle of raspberry sauce.
