  • 1 1/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

  2. In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy using an electric mixer.
  3. Add the egg and vanilla extract; beat until well combined.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a smooth dough forms.
  5. Divide dough in half, wrap in plastic wrap, and chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.
  6. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  7. Roll out dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4 inch thickness.
  8. Use heart-shaped cookie cutters to cut out cookies and place them 2 inches apart on prepared baking sheets.
  9. Bake for 8–10 minutes, or until cookies are set but not overly firm.
  10. Allow cookies to cool on baking sheets for 5 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
  11. Optionally, dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes
